I've been meaning to write something in my blog for awhile.. mainly to complain about texas, hahaha. just kidding. but texas is really different from california i would have to say.
1. people can't drive here. okay well people can't really drive in california either but.. at least THEY stay in their lines. drivers here like to drive on top of the lines.. change lines right in front of you as if you don't exists.. also.. drivers habits varies by where you are driving.. if you are driving in a nice area... afternoon is the worst, you have a lot of those stay at home immigrant moms (hey i'm an immigrant too so its okay for me to say :P) picking up their kids.. so they drive like CRAZY because they are scared. then if you are driving in the ghetto.. which is like 75% of all houston.. you have people who really don't care if you run into them.. and actually they would rather have you run into them so you can spit out some insurance money. one time, i was in the passenger's seat, i saw that the car in the line to the left of us braked and went while we are ON THE FREEWAY. okay well that's not it.. the reason why he was doing that is to piss off the car behind.. wanting that car to crash into him if he stepped on his break so it'll look like that car ran into him.. anyway.. it was not very fun driving behind them.. anyway, bus system really works here.. probably because most people are poor so bus is a good way to go :)
2. there are too many birds. birds are EVERYWHERE.. i mean they're really pretty and all.. and most of the birds i've seen are different from the ones you regularly see in california.. but they fly in a mass.. i mean massive.. massive group.. where birds would rest and stop on the electricity poles.. and that would take up a block of electricity poles. they fly together aimlessly.. they fly low too.. so a lot of times, you'll find some people driving out their cars with piles of bird poop on their windshield.
3. people tell directions in terms of North, South, East and West. good thing i learned my "Never Eat Shredded Wheat"! freeways all have "feeder" roads too.. which are roads next to the freeway. they run wherever the freeway goes.. just that they have stop lights. i always wondered why you would need freeways this way but i guess it is still faster to drive without lights. its hard getting on and off the freeways here. you have to get on the feeder road, then merge crazily to the left to get on the freeway, and if you want to get off.. you have to exit, and drive on he feeder road.. merge out so you don't get on the freeway again. i've never knew that a freeway can loop around a city, so there is a loop freeway here in houston. inner loop is the freeway that loops round houston downtown. belt 8 is the freeway that loops around the entire houston city. then you only have freeways going in and out of the center of the city like spider webs. its hard to tell where you are going since the freeways are always on a slant. if its saying 288 North, it actually is more like 288 Northeast. but its good that things are always around each other, and places are always accessible by freeway once you figure things out.. since a lot of business decides to just but built on the feeder roads.
sigh, i have a lot more things to say about houston.. but i think i should give its fair share.. it does have its good points.. i think? maybe when i figure out that out, i will type another entry.
oh yeah, one last complaint, i feel like a total "immigrant" again.. experience more racism here.. more "surprises" about the "other" ethnicity.
